Editor’s note

To look from somewhere

Elsewhere begins in China but is not confined by geography. Its perspective grows from moving between rural communities, cities and international exhibitions—looking at how art changes when the conditions around it change.

We believe criticism becomes more useful when the writer makes their position visible: not as a claim to authority, but as a way of being accountable to what they see.
